Located inland in the center of the island, Saint Joseph boasts Martinique's largest forest area.
Bordered by the Rivière Blanche, this area benefits from exceptional vegetation and an outstanding ecosystem, in a word, it's Martinique's true green lung!
A rural commune par excellence, the soil is fertile and the climate conducive to agriculture. Its traditional agricultural plantations of sugarcane and pineapple have given way to flower, vegetable and aquaculture farms, earning Saint-Joseph the nickname "Martinique's granary".
The commune boasts numerous tourist attractions, most of which focus on green tourism. One of the best known is "Coeur Bouliki", a haven of greenery and peace, crossed by the Rivière Blanche, ideal for picnics.
And let's not forget the many hikes and visits to horticultural plantations.
Also worth a visit:
- The Centenary Garden with its many botanical species, the Jubilee Tower made of volcanic rock and dating from the early 20th century or the Grotto of Lourdes.
- The church built in the 19th century and restored during the 20th presents many architectural interests (basilical style with Gothic influence).
