Freedom, democracy, truth, light - the battle never ends. There are always enemies. We must fight. Our amateur workshop in Fort-de-France returns to the stage at the Theatre du Lycee Victor Schoelcher! A text by Mark Ravenhill, a major figure in contemporary British theater, known for his incisive writing and his sharp look at our societies. War and Breakfast tells the story of how war infiltrates a couple's intimacy, and even their child's nightmares. Little by little, fear distorts their view of the world, nourishing their certainty of belonging to a society of "good people", ready to crusade against an Evil they think they recognize. The show moves away from realism towards a light-hearted burlesque, as a way of keeping our fears at bay and sharing the absurdity of war. An ambitious, sensitive project, offering a moment of theater that we hope will be accessible, surprising and topical. The project is based on three short plays by Mark Ravenhill: Grand-Peur et Misere, Les Troyennes and Guerre et Paix. A major author of contemporary British theater, Ravenhill blends frontality, black humor and poetry in short forms where the everyday quickly turns to the disturbing. This show is the culmination of a year's work with eight women and one man, following on from L'Autre Bord Compagnie's amateur workshops. Together, they have sought to play truthfully, without overacting, and to build a shared imagination in which symbolism becomes a tool for telling a different story.
