Rejuvenating experience
The Etang des Salines is a coastal lagoon that has been protected by the Conservatoire du Littoral since 1998 and has been awarded the RAMSAR label since 2008, making it a wetland of international importance.
Located opposite Grande Anse des Salines beach, the pond is little-known to visitors, unlike Grande Anse beach, which is the most popular natural site in Martinique.
To promote the pond, the Conservatoire has set up a trail on stilts and a bird observatory. Visitors can discover the associated flora and fauna, in particular the mangrove swamps bordering the pond (red mangrove, black mangrove, etc.) and the many migratory birds that frequent the pond's mudflats from September to December.
The pond has been listed since August 2013.
